Donkey & Goat, Pinot Gris ‘Ramato’ Filigreen Farm, Anderson Valley 2017

Updated: Nov 18, 2019

Berkeley's best......

Jared and Tracey Brandt have been making Donkey & Goat wines in their winery located in Berkeley since 2003. This Pinot Gris comes from the biodynamic Filigreen Farm located in Anderson Valley. It sees 5 days of skin contact in concrete tank & then is fermented & aged for 7 months in used French oak, it’s bottled unfined & unfiltered with minimal sulfur added. The skin contact gives the vivid peach color & a nose watermelon, peach, ruby grapefruit skin & a certain meaty quality. On the palate hibiscus tea, dried apricot, mandarin orange, ruby grapefruit, pink peppercorns all combine with a bold mouthfeel of structured tannins & spices. Seemingly ever evolving in the glass, this is a unique & delicious ‘Ramato’.

Ramato = Italian for “auburn” or “copper” & is a very old, traditional style of skin contact winemaking using Pinot Grigio originating in northeastern Italy (primarily Friuli Venezia Giulia) & Slovenia. @donkeyandgoat @jennyfrancois #ramato #pinotgris #andersonvalley #naturalwine
