Quinta de Lemos ‘Dona Santana’ Dão Portugal 2006

Better than Cab...

Hailing from the Dão, Portugal’s oldest wine producing region, Quinta de Lemos is a relatively modern winery - mid ’90’s - producing balanced, age worthy wines from mostly Touriga Nacional & Touriga Roriz. The ‘Dona Santana’ is a blend of 60% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) 10% Jaen (Mencía) & 10% Afrocheiro, aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. Beautifully knitted together now after 13 yrs. of coalescing, this full bodied beauty retains some freshness on the nose, with black cherry fruit, but leather, tobacco & dark tea notes abound. Shows a mature complexity, with the tannins having receded nicely & the oak integrated well, giving a silky, well structured mouthfeel accompanied by more tea, mushroom, earth, wood spices & black coffee. PAIR WITH: Dry aged bone in rib-eye.
