Le Pianelle Bramaterra 2014 Spanna (Nebbiolo), Vespolina, Croatina

Updated: Nov 18, 2019

Bramaterra - Unheralded no more...

Located in the shadow of the Alps is the Alto-Piedmonte, where you will find the Bramaterra DOC. The wines from the Alto-Piedmonte were prized by the nobles of Turin & Milan over 100 yrs. ago & far more renowned than Barolo & Barbaresco. Forgotten & neglected through the mid 1900’s, today the area is on the rise again producing Nebbiolo - known locally as Spanna - based wines that tend to be less tannic, lower in alcohol & higher in acidity than their southern brethren.

Le Pianelle is a bottling of only the best barrels made from 80% Spanna, 10% Vespolina, 10% Croatina. Everything is aged for 20 months, the Nebbiolo in large barrels & the Vespolina and Croatina in used barriques. Croatina provides deeper colored, tea-leaf tannins and red berry notes whilst the Vespolina is lighter in color with very distinctive bright berry and herbal notes.

A lovely high toned bouquet of candied red berries, cherry pastilles & roses burst from the glass. More bright red fruit & blood orange are found on the elegant & structured palate, with a damp earthy amaro bitterness, licorice & perfectly weighted tea like tannins all bolstered by racy acidity. Super delicious to drink now, but also extremely age worthy. @grandcruselections #lepianelle #cristianogarella #peterdipoli #dieterheuskel #bramaterra #nebbiolo #vespolina #croatina #nebbiololover #altopiedmonte
