Domaine Patrick Charlin Roussette du Bugey Montagnieu 2009 Altesse

"Bugey" - Wonderland...

Patrick Charlin founded the estate in 1980 with vines that were planted in 1975 on a steep southeast facing slope overlooking the Rhône. 100% Altesse, the grapes are gently pressed, fermented in a combination of stainless steel and cement vats & the wine is aged for 12-18 months in old barrels (20%) and vats.

Now with a decade of age on it this has a gorgeous aromatic nose of exotic, slightly sweet, honeyed spices, truffles & earth along with ripe quince & apples with clove. There’s a touch of oxidation married with roasted hazelnut & ripe toffee apple on the palate & it has really taken on lovely weight & body with age & is best described as voluptuous & unctuous, but it’s natural high acid & inherent minerality keeps it superbly balanced.
