Thomas Batardiere Anjou Blanc ‘L’Esprit Libre’ 2017 Chenin Blanc

Updated: Nov 18, 2019

Chenin's 'Free Spirit'...

Originally a film maker, Thomas worked under Mathieu Vallée at Château Yvonne for 3 years before he purchased his own vineyard in 2012 in the town of Rablay sur Layon, Anjou & immediately began practicing biodynamic viticulture, becoming Demeter certified by 2015. 100% Chenin Blanc from 15-90 yrs. old vines grown on red sand & quartz gravel on schist, fermentation starts naturally, without inoculation or temperature control. Aged for 11 months on the lees, mainly in steel with a small quantity in 500 L tonneaux, it’s bottled in September before the harvest, with no fining & minimal sulfur added (1 – 2 grams).

Some classic hints of lanolin & ripe yellow apples on the nose with a touch of clove, but the palate is very linear & chiseled, with a bolt of acid surging through its core. Pure, precise & focused you get some texture & wonderful aromatics of Chenin Blanc & it will undoubtedly add palate weight & unctuousness with age. This is a beautiful example of a modern, clean Chenin Blanc & a delight to drink. @thomasbatardiere #lespritlibre #chenin #chenincheninchenin #realwine #demeter #biodynamic #organic #naturalwine #vinnature #vinnaturel #vinvivant #anjou #loirevalley @coeurwineco @mccarusbeverage
