Ca’ di Mat ‘Fuente de los Huertos’ 2017 Sierra de Gredos Spain Garnacha

Updated: Nov 18, 2019

No Fool Here...

Located in the Gredos mountains an hour west of Madrid, the ‘Fuente de los Huertos’ is sourced from a single parcel of 30-80 yr. old bush vine Garnacha growing at 800 meters, on a northwest exposure, in shallow granitic soils. Minimal intervention winemaking is practiced, whole clusters are gently foot trodden, spontaneously fermented in concrete & macerated for 60 days. They separate the must by hand from the stems & skins, giving a subtly aromatic & fruity juice, that then ages for 1 year in 50% used French oak & 50% concrete.

Light & delicate with sweet wild strawberry, red apple skin, pomegranate & orange peel on the nose, but the mouthfeel is broad with lovely mouth coating, lush red berry fruit, gentle, ripe tannins & pure acidity giving balance & structure. Then just when you thinks it’s done giving, there’s a rocky minerality that shines through on the final finish.
